Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 15, 2026 · Version: 1.0
This policy explains what information RenoSwap collects, how we use it, who can see it, and your choices. RenoSwap is run by RenoSwap LLC ("we," "us").
The short version: we collect what we need to run a local materials marketplace. We don't sell your personal information, and we don't show ads. Your profile and listings are public. Your messages are private between you and the other person, but our admins can read them to keep people safe. Card details are handled by Stripe, not us.
1. What we collect
Information you give us:
- Account: email address and password. Your password is handled by our login provider (Supabase Auth) and stored in a scrambled (hashed) form. We can't see it.
- Profile: display name, role (Homeowner or Contractor), company name (if you're a contractor), city, ZIP code, a short bio, and a profile photo (optional).
- Listings: title, category, condition, description, what you're looking for in a swap, price, city and ZIP, pickup/shipping options, the listing type (Swap, Sell, Sell or Swap, Fast & Free), and photos.
- Messages and offers you send to other users.
- Reports you file about listings or users, including your reason and details.
- Trades, ratings, and reviews: trades you mark complete or confirm, star ratings and comments you leave, and reports about reviews.
- Alerts and email settings: your "Looking for" alerts and whether offer, message, and alert emails are on or off.
- Support emails you send us.
Billing information:
- If you buy a plan or a boost, Stripe collects your payment card and billing details. We never receive or store your full card number.
- We keep your billing status: your plan, whether it's active, when it renews or ends, a Stripe customer ID, and which listings you boosted.
Information collected automatically:
- Login cookies. We use a small number of cookies to keep you signed in and secure your session. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
- Basic logs. Our hosting and database providers automatically record technical information like IP address, browser type, pages requested, and the time, for security and to fix problems.
We don't currently send browser push notifications, and we don't collect your precise location. We only know the city and ZIP you type in. Distance on Browse is approximate: we estimate it from ZIP codes (for example, "~12 mi") and never show your address. Photos: when you upload a photo, the app strips GPS location data from the image file before it's stored.
2. What's public and what's private
Public (anyone, even without an account, can see):
- Your display name, profile photo, city, bio, company name, and Contractor label
- Your approved listings, including photos, description, price, and city and ZIP
- Your star rating and reviews from completed trades (reviews appear once both people have left one, or after 7 days)
Only put in your profile and listings what you're comfortable sharing publicly. Don't put your street address or phone number in a listing. Share those in private messages only when you're ready.
Private:
- Your email address isn't shown on the site. (See the note for the owner at the end of this document.)
- Messages and offers can only be seen by the people in the conversation and by RenoSwap admins. Admins may review them to check reports, stop scams or abuse, or enforce our Terms.
- Reports can only be seen by the person who filed them and by admins.
- Billing details are only visible to you, our admins, and Stripe.
3. How we use your information
- To create and run your account, and to show your profile and listings
- To review and approve listings, and to handle reports
- To let you message other users and make offers
- To process subscriptions and boosts (through Stripe) and apply your plan's listing limits
- To send account emails, like sign-up confirmations and password resets, and important notices about your account or policy changes
- To send email alerts you can control: new offers and messages, and "Looking for" matches. Every alert email has an unsubscribe link, and you can turn alerts on or off on the Account page
- To keep RenoSwap safe: preventing fraud, spam, and abuse, and enforcing our Terms
- To fix bugs and improve the Service
- To follow the law and respond to valid legal requests
We don't send marketing emails without your permission. We don't use your information for advertising.
4. Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent your personal information. We share it only:
- With other users, as described in Section 2
- With service providers that run RenoSwap for us, only as needed to provide their services:
- Supabase: database, login, and file storage (profiles, listings, photos, messages)
- Vercel: website hosting (and the basic logs described above)
- Stripe: payments and billing
- Resend: sends account emails and email alerts
- For legal reasons: if the law requires it, to respond to valid legal requests, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users, the public, or RenoSwap
- If the business changes hands: if RenoSwap is sold or merged, your information may transfer to the new owner, who must follow this policy or tell you about changes
Our providers may store data on servers outside Texas, including elsewhere in the United States.
5. How long we keep it
- We keep account, profile, and listing information while your account is open.
- Rejected or expired listings may stay in our records so admins can review history.
- When you delete your account, we delete your profile, listings, photos, alerts, and settings right away. Messages you sent stay visible to the other person, shown as from a "Deleted member," and remaining records are deleted or de-identified, usually within 30 days. Some things may stay longer:
- copies in backups, until they expire
- billing and payment records we must keep for tax and accounting
- records of reports or rule violations kept for safety
- messages you sent may still be visible to the other person if they're kept for a report
- Hosting and database logs are kept for a limited time by our providers.
6. Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile anytime on the Account page, including adding, changing, or removing your photo.
- Edit or remove listings from My listings, or ask us to remove them.
- Cancel a plan from Billing → Manage billing.
- Delete your account yourself anytime: tap Delete account at the bottom of the Account page and type DELETE to confirm. Or email RenoSwap101@gmail.com from the email address on your account.
- Turn email alerts off on the Account page, or use the unsubscribe link in any alert email.
- Get a copy or correct your information: email us and we'll help.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights. Contact us and we'll respond as the law requires. We won't treat you differently for using your privacy rights.
7. Security
We use reasonable safeguards: encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, database access rules that limit who can see what, and trusted providers. No website is perfectly secure, so use a strong, unique password and tell us right away if you think your account was misused.
8. Age limit
RenoSwap is for adults 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make significant changes, we'll let you know (for example, by email or a notice on the site) before they take effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
