Safety tips for meetups and pickups
Effective date: October 15, 2026
RenoSwap doesn't handle payment or pickups, so a little caution goes a long way.
Before you meet
- Keep talking in RenoSwap messages until you're ready to meet, so there's a record if something goes wrong.
- Ask for extra photos and measurements. Confirm the quantity, condition, and price before you drive over.
- Never pay in advance to someone you haven't met. Avoid wire transfers, gift cards, crypto, and "I'll overpay, send me the difference" offers. Those are common scams.
- Don't share your home address until you're ready to arrange pickup.
Meeting up
- If you can, meet in a public, well-lit place during the day, like a store parking lot or a police station "safe exchange" spot.
- For large items that need a home pickup, have someone with you. Or do a porch or driveway pickup so no one has to come inside. Tell a friend where you're going.
- Trust your gut. If something feels off, leave.
Paying and inspecting
- Look the item over before you pay. Check for damage, moisture, mold, and missing parts.
- Use a payment method you trust, and only pay once you have the item. Cash is simple. With payment apps, be sure you know who you're paying.
Loading and handling
- Bring the right vehicle, straps, tarps, and a helper. Many materials are heavier than they look.
- Wear gloves and closed-toe shoes. Watch for nails, sharp edges, and broken glass.
- Don't sand, cut, or scrape old painted or older building materials without proper precautions. They may contain lead or asbestos.
- In Texas heat, bring water and don't overdo heavy lifting.
If something goes wrong
- Use Report on the listing or user, and email RenoSwap101@gmail.com.
- If you're in danger or a crime has happened, call 911 or your local police.
Read the Prohibited Items list and Terms of Service. RenoSwap is only a venue, isn't part of any deal, and isn't liable for meetups.
